Whether it’s at an art gala or a fundraiser, Bergenites show support for their friends and neighbors.




St. Jude Children's Hospital

The Shannon Rose, with locations in Ramsey and Clifton, donated more than $11,000 to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in support of its mission to fight pediatric diseases. Funds were raised through the pub’s holiday brunch, plus the “Punkin Chunkin” competition, in which patrons were challenged to test their strength by launching pumpkins.

Bergen Leads

The Bergen Volunteer Center’s Bergen LEADS program is seeking applicants for its Class of 2019. Course participants are immersed in a curriculum that introduces them to leadership styles and topical issues of local importance. An online application form, due April 9, can be found at bergenleads.org.

The restaurant celebrated National Pizza Day by throwing surprise pizza parties around the county. Ten pies were donated to the Franciscan Community Development Center; a dozen went to the Leonia High School band to thank the group for its performances at City Place.

The Community Chest

The Community Chest, an organization in Englewood that supports local not-for-profit agencies, hosted an art exhibit titled “Stills From Life” at bergenPAC’s Sandy Bennett Art Gallery. The event’s opening reception attracted more than 75 guests.

New Jersey Association of Verismo Opera

Lucine Amara and the New Jersey Association of Verismo Opera announced the winners of its 29th annual international vocal competition. Soprano Yulan Piao received first place, with tenors Peter Scott Drackley and Taehwan Ku coming in second and third, respectively.

Bergen women helped raise funds for Ho-Ho-Kus mother of two Christine Danza, who recently suffered an accident that left her partially paralyzed. The event, held at the Wyckoff YMCA, included raffles and a drawing for tickets to Broadway’s Dear Evan Hansen.
