The first day of school is just around the corner, but why wait to start learning. Monmouth County is home to several museums that are educational and entertaining. Be sure you and your family visit these places:

Monmouth Museum, 765 Newman Springs Rd., Lincroft, 732.747.2266.

View innovative, changing exhibits focusing on art, natural sciences and cultural history for all ages.

Jewish Heritage Museum of Monmouth County, 310 Mounts Corner Dr., Freehold, 732.252.6990.

This center is dedicated to the promotion of public awareness of Monmouth County’s Jewish heritage.

Allaire Village, 4263 Atlantic Ave., Farmingdale, 732.919.3500.

This historic site was once an ironproducing factory known as the Howell Works Company. Now, it’s an interactive museum where visitors can experience history through hands-on activities.

New Jersey Museum of Transportation, 4265 Atlantic Ave., Wall Township, 732.938.5524.

The museum’s Pine Creek Railroad is one of the oldest operating narrow gauge railway exhibits in the country. It’s dedicated to the collection, preservation and operation of historic railroad equipment.

Navesink Twin Lights, 2 Light House Rd., Highlands, 732.872.1814.

This nonoperational lighthouse has been around since 1828.
