The Shrewsbury Chorale will perform MERCY, MERCY, MERCY, a concert of music written by Vivaldi, Britten, and Handel in support of charities. The performance will take place on April 28, 2019 at 3 pm at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Monmouth County, 1475 W. Front Street, Lincroft, NJ. Guest Conductor Joshua Anand Slater will direct a musical ensemble that includes chorus, vocal soloists, and chamber orchestra. The program will feature Vivaldi’s Magnificat, written around 1726, to support a Venetian orphanage, the Ospedale della Pietà, which is still active today. Britten’s contemporary Cantata Misericordium, commissioned for the1963 celebration of the 100th Anniversary of the Red Cross, will follow. This piece, sung in Latin, is a musical adaptation of the parable of the Good Samaritan. Rounding out the program will be Handel’s Foundling Hospital Anthem, composed for a 1749 performance to aid a London hospital housing and educating orphans. Handel inserted his own Hallelujah Chorus as a finale to this piece. Tickets at the door are $25 (Adult); $20 (Student/Senior); and $10 (Child). Advance sales are discounted at $20, $17, and $8.
