The Mane Event

Tired of your tresses? There’s no better time to make a change than spring, the season of new beginnings. Check out these five hot celeb looks for inspiration. Then head to your favorite local salon.

>>PIXIE
The pixie is nothing new; it’s been around since the 1950s, when Audrey Hepburn sported the style. What’s new about today’s pixie is the longer length. Here, Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence shows off the cut with long, sideswept bangs for lots of movement and versatility. You can wear this style casually messy or sleek and slicked back, depending on your mood and the occasion.

>>BANGS
Whether they’re blunt, razored, sideswept, above the brow or lash-grazing like Taylor Swift’s, bangs are big this season. And there’s a flattering fringe for just about everyone. Don’t believe us? Take a look at Swift’s bangs; you’d never guess that her tresses are naturally curly.

>>LOOSE WAVES
You don’t have to be a Hollywood A-lister like Jennifer Garner to rock loose, sexy waves. Soft and romantic, this laid-back ’do never goes out of style and can be done with nearly any hair texture—although, we admit, the look is easier to achieve if you have naturally wavy hair like Garner. Experiment with the part or sweep the waves to the side for a quick change.

>>PONYTAIL
Once considered a fashion faux pas, ponytails—especially the sleek, low ponytail— have made a glamorous comeback. In fact, low ponytails were all over the runways at the spring fashion shows. And several high-profile celebrities, including Gwyneth Paltrow, have taken the trend to the red carpet, proving it’s a très elegant way to wear your hair tied back.

>>PONYTAIL
Short hair is all the rage this season, but if you aren’t brave enough for a pixie, take a cue from Keira Knightley and try a bob. This timeless style—a perfect blend of classic and modern—suits just about any face shape, hair color and hair texture. Knightley’s straight, fine hair benefits from a graduated, chin-skimming cut with razored edges, which gives her locks extra swing and volume.
