10 Events To Kick-Start Summer

From festivals and food trucks to car shows and comedy, there’s non-stop fun this month in Morris and Essex counties.

At last, summer is here! The summer solstice, June 20, kicks off the season of fun and sun, when school’s out and lazy days with ice cream and friends are in.

If you and your crew are ready to start celebrating the season, you’re in luck—our counties are packed with activities for all ages. You can stop by any of these upcoming events (remember to click the links for individual ticket information!):

June 12–15: The popular Tri-County Fair returns to Rockaway for four days of family fun, including carnival rides and games, food, live music, magicians and more. Parking is $5, but admission is free. Check out their website for the full schedule and details.

June 14: Support and celebrate the LGBT+ community at Montclair Pride, happening along Bloomfield Avenue from Park Street to Lackawanna Plaza. The family-friendly event includes music and performers, food trucks, vendors, family activities, crafts and games. The fun starts at noon. See the full schedule of events on their website.

June 15: Give Dad a few laughs for his big day and take him to Earthquake’s Father’s Day Comedy at New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark. The 7 p.m. show features comedians Earthquake (known for his work with HBO’s Def Comedy Jam), DeRay Davis, Chico Bean and B. Simone. Tickets and information are available online.

June 20: The festivities begin when the sun goes down at Denville After Dark. The event features restaurant specials, games, music, entertainment (a hot dog-eating contest, perhaps?) throughout downtown Denville. Head over after 5:30 p.m. for the excitement.

June 21–22: Whether you appreciate art or are looking to add a piece to your collection, the Fine Arts & Crafts Sale at Brookdale Park in Bloomfield has what you want. The juried show features a selection of fine artists, sculptors, photographer and artisans, all of whom will be selling their hand-crafted works. The show runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

June 21: The Giralda Music & Arts Festival returns to Giralda Farms in Madison for a day of family fun. There will be musical performances by the New Jersey Symphony and guitarist Hernan Romero as well as activities for children, a 50/50 raffle, an art sale, food trucks and more. June 26: Renowned entertainer Isaac Mizrahi will take the stage at the Mayo PAC in Morristown for an 8 p.m. performance. His act will include classic songs by everyone from Stephen Sondheim to Blondie and Madonna will be backed by a six-piece jazz band. Visit the Mayo Center’s website for tickets and information.

June 27: A main event of the annual North To Shore Festival, comedians Jon Stewart, John Mulaney and Pete Davidson will perform at the Prudential Center in Newark beginning at 7:30 p.m. Visit the Prudential Center website for ticketing information and more show details.

June 28: The Turtle Back Zoo in West Orange is bringing back Brew at the Zoo for the 21 and older crowd. Enjoy a selection of beverages from craft breweries (non-alcoholic beverages will also be available) and food from local vendors. This event begins at 6 p.m. Tickets are available online.

June 29: Calling all car enthusiasts, especially Porsche fans! Paul Miller Porsche in Parsippany is holding a Classic Concours for all Porsche models and years. Stop by to see the sights, or bring your own Porsche to show off (exterior, interior and storage areas will be judged, engines will not be examined). The event begins at 9 a.m.
