10 Weekend Events To Cure Winter Blues
From bright lights and basketball to great songs and dances, family fun runs the gamut in Bergen County.

The gift-giving season has ended, get-togethers are done, winter routines have resumed and baby, it’s cold outside. The post-holiday blues are real, folks! Luckily, you live in Bergen County, where there’s always an assortment of events and activities that can lift any spirit.
If you and your crew are looking for something to do—whether you need a pick-me-up or just want to hang out with others—these 10 weekend events are packed with fun, laughs and action as well as opportunities to learn and relax.
Jan. 10
- If you love The Beatles (especially the band’s former drummer), join the crowd at BB’s Records in Bergenfield for a Ringo Starr listening party. At 7 p.m., fans can get a first listen of Starr’s new album, Look Up, which features 11 original tracks. The free listening party also includes giveaways, prizes and plenty of rock conversation.
Jan. 10–11
- Funnywoman Tacarra Williams stops by Bananas Comedy Club in Rutherford for three shows over two nights. Williams is a comedy circuit veteran, having hit every major stage in New York and Hollywood, including Carolines on Broadway, Broadway Comedy Club, Apollo Theatre, Hollywood Improv, The Comedy Store, Russell Simmons All Def Digital and The Laugh Factory. She also has a comedy special on Comedy Central produced by Kevin Hart. Tickets for the 8 p.m. show on Friday and both the 7:30 and 10 p.m. shows on Saturday can be purchased now online.
Jan. 10–12
- Enjoy the final weekend of Let It Glow (pictured), the holiday lantern spectacular at the Bergen County Zoo in Paramus. Tickets to the evening event include a zoo walk-through to see the larger-than-life lanterns, a train ride, free crafts and an opportunity to warm up by firepits and devour a couple of s’mores. Hours are 4 to 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 4 to 8 p.m. on Sunday.
Jan. 11
- Want to LOL? The Howdy Stranger Improv Comedy Show stops at the Hackensack Performing Arts Center for an 8 p.m. set. The group, winners of the NYC Tournament of Improvisers, has been making audiences laugh for more than 15 years with its unscripted, interactive and hilarious show. Tickets can be purchased online.
Sunday, Jan. 12
- Art lovers can meet watercolorist Candace Cobb during an artist reception at West Side Presbyterian Church in Ridgewood. Cobb’s work is featured at The Gallery throughout January. The reception takes place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
- Birders and nature lovers, rejoice! The Bergen County Audubon Society hosts its annual NJ Meadowlands Eagle Festival from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Meadowlands Environment Center in Lyndhurst’s DeKorte Park. All visitors can participate in activities such as eagle watch walks, photography demonstrations, kids’ arts and crafts, educational presentations and more.
- For free family fun, visit the Food Court District at Garden State Plaza in Paramus from 11 to 3 p.m. There will be a variety of giveaways for food, movies, entertainment and more (while supplies last) along with a character meet and greet, face painting, balloon twisting and art and plenty of photo opportunities. Pre-register online.
- Fairleigh Dickinson University athletics will honor former men’s basketball coach Tom Green, the winningest coach in FDU history, before the Knights’s 1 p.m. home game against Saint Francis University. The game is also Alumni Day, when FDU grads can receive discounts when they purchase tickets online. The FDU men’s basketball team is 4-1 while playing games this season at the Bogota Savings Bank Center in Hackensack.
- The Disney-loving family will enjoy Disney’s Encanto Sing Along, which will be screened at 1 and 4 p.m. at Bergen Performing Arts Center in Englewood. The audience is invited to sing along with the animated film and watch the story of the Madrigal family unfold. Tickets are available online for both showings.
- Do you love dance? Head to the Dream Stage inside American Dream mall in East Rutherford and watch RnnL Dance. Members of this New York dance studio will show off cool moves in a variety of styles: hip-hop, jazz funk, lyrical, K-pop and more. The show takes place from 2 to 4 p.m. and is free for all.
