New York City’s holiday attractions are iconic, but you don’t need to brave the traffic to see a great holiday show. Across Bergen County, passionate pros and talented performers alike are coming together to present high-quality music, acting and dance that’ll bring the spirit of the season to you.

Below is a sample of the holiday shows happening in Bergen County:

Bergen Community College, Paramus

  • Dec. 14: Directed by Peter Furlan, a well-known face among local jazz musicians, the Bergensounds Winter Student Concert Series Jazz Ensemble Concert shows off the talent of local college students with a holiday slant. Showtime is 7 p.m.
  • Dec. 20: BCC’s musical director Jess Abrams takes up the baton to conduct the annual Bergensounds Winter Student Concert Series Winter Choral Concert. The program starts at 7 p.m.

Bergen County Historical Society, River Edge

  • Dec. 16 & 17: Join the Bergen County Historical Society at the historic Steuben House in River Edge for its 40th Annual Colonial Christmas Concerts and Tavern Fare, an evening of historical yuletides, carols and storytelling. Showtimes are 6 and 7:45 p.m. on Dec. 16 and 3 and 6 p.m. on Dec. 17.

Bergen County Players, Oradell

  • Through Dec. 17: A Christmas Carol, staged and performed by the Bergen County Players, puts a musical spin of Charles Dicken’s timeless holiday classic. Both evening and matinée times are available.

Bergen Performing Arts Center, Englewood

  • Dec. 13: Cirque Musica Holiday Wonderland offers a combination of music, acrobatics and comedic hijinks for a holiday experience to entertain the whole family. The show starts at 8 p.m.
  • Dec. 16: A Very Bergen Holiday is a holiday celebration of local voices including a performances by bergenPAC’s choir, dance ensemble, acting troupe and faculty band. All ticket proceeds for the 7 p.m. event benefit Voices in Harmony, bergenPAC’s education program aimed towards students with cognitive and physical disabilities.

Hackensack Performing Arts Center, Hackensack

  • Dec. 8 & 9: The Christmas Caper, a family musical adventure about a journey to retrieve Santa’s stolen sleigh, has a showing at 7:30 p.m. on both days, as well as a matinée performance from 2 to 3:30 p.m. on Dec. 9.
  • Dec. 16: Howdy Stranger’s Holiday Spectacle is a holiday themed improv show that promises a not-so-silent night of laughs. The program takes place from 8 to 9:30 p.m.

Jersey Jubilation Handbell Choir, Ridgewood

  • Dec. 10: Ridgewood’s community handbell ensemble, celebrating its 20th year, performs a free holiday concert at the West Milford Library at 2:30 p.m.
  • Dec. 15: Stop by Ridgewood United Methodist Church at 8 p.m. for the choir’s holiday concert, also free and open to the public.
  • Dec. 17: Head to the New Jersey Botanical Gardens at 1:30 p.m. and enjoy both the sounds of bells and the beauty of Ringwood State Park in winter.

Orpheus Men’s Choir, Ridgewood

  • Dec. 9 & 10: The men’s community choir will be performing its annual holiday concerts at Ridgewood’s First Presbyterian Church. The Dec. 9 show starts at 7:30 p.m., and the Dec. 10 matinée begins at 3 p.m.
