There are endless ways to celebrate summer, whether you’re headed to the beach, a town pool, a backyard escape or somewhere inside for some old-fashioned AC. But you shouldn’t limit yourself to just those options. Can we interest you in a splash park?

Ideal for families with children who may be too young to swim, a splash park combines all the best parts of a playground and a water park—and you don’t need to pay water park prices to go.

Bergen has plenty of splash pads and parks you can visit (even though the one at Van Saun in Paramus is currently closed for construction). Here are some options (make sure to check out the links and town websites for individual rules and pricing, if any):

Carver Park, Hackensack. Fountains and hoops keep the water moving in Hackensack, and older children can enjoy basketball courts for pickup games (just remember that bottled water!).
*302 2nd St., Hackensack

Darlington County Park, Mahwah. Summer’s pleasures are already right at your fingertips at this lakeside beach area, but the inflatable splash zone lets you run right over the water like a ninja warrior.
*600 Darlington Ave., Mahwah

Jewell Street Park, Garfield. This park has a small splash pad in addition to swings, jungle gyms and picnic tables. Visitors should note that the park will be open in a limited capacity this summer.
*152 Lanza Ave., Garfield

Lyndhurst Municipal Park, Lyndhurst. Lyndhurst’s splash pad is fenced in and surrounded by grass, so kids can run and play while parents take a breather.
*310 Pine St. #276, Lyndhurst

Polifly Road Park, Hackensack. Water bubbles up from the ground and falls from spouts to cool anyone who stops by.
*59 Polifly Rd., Hackensack

Veteran’s Field Park, Edgewater. Tucked right next to the park’s jungle gyms, the water fun never needs to stop in Edgewater.
*1057-1165 River Rd., Edgewater

Votee Park, Teaneck. This pad is open seven days a week until September. Designed to operate with nearly zero water depth, it’s a great option for little ones.
*Palisade Avenue, Teaneck

Walter Lubbe Jr. Playground, Bergenfield. Hoops and spouts throw water in the air at this neighborhhod spot. After they’re cooled off, the kids can dry off by hopping on the nearby swings.
*New Bridge Road, Bergenfield

William T. Birch Park, Fort Lee. Themed with fish and frogs, this larger splash park has a non-slip surface on the ground for playtime safety.
*500 Stillwell Ave., Fort Lee
