When Diane Karpus joined Atria Tinton Falls as the Executive Director nearly five years ago, she’d never worked in senior living. But to her, this wasn’t a new career. It was a continuation of the work she loved.
“The job is making people happy,” she says of working with older adults. “That’s what I’ve done all my life.”
With a background in theater and decades of experience leading fitness programs for people with Parkinson’s disease, diabetes and other health challenges, Diane found that senior living presented an opportunity to keep helping people stay active – and to bring a little entertainment to each day.
If you stop by the community, you’ll likely find Diane singing Broadway tunes with residents, listening to their stories or meeting with their families. And she’s not the only one. From culinary to housekeeping, many employees have served residents with kindness and compassion for more than 25 years.
“There are people who can run a community,” Diane says. “But the important thing is the relationships you create with the residents.”
