A Cut Above

The art of barbering is nothing new to the folks at Alex’s Barber Shop. They’ve been cutting men’s hair since 1961— with co-owners Adam and Gabor Alex Stibinger following in the footsteps of their grandfather, uncle and father before them. “We were literally born into it,” says Adam, who, with his brother, learned their trade under the tutelage of their grandfather, a master barber who was trained in Hungary and emigrated to the U.S. in 1956. “I feel that Adam and I are keepers of a lost art,” adds Gabor Alex.

This past May, the scissors-and-razor-wielding brothers broke from 54 years of tradition and relocated the barbershop from its original spot in Ledgewood to a larger space in Kenvil. The move has given Adam and Gabor Alex the opportunity to expand their services, creating a dedicated hot-shave room and developing their own line of hair-styling products.

Not to worry, though; you’ll still get a great cut in the new place. “We’ll always remain true to our classical roots,” says Adam, “spending time with each customer, asking questions about their current hairstyle and preferences. We want to make sure they get the perfect solution for their needs and the image they want to project.”

Spoken like a master barber.
