Add A Furry Friend To Your Family

It’s the season of new beginnings, so there’s never been a better time to open your home to a new four-legged member.
Little Four Years Pretty Girl With Domestic Pet At Home Sofa. Children And Dog. Care Animals

It’s still cold outside, but we promise spring is coming. We’ll be seeing budding flowers, new leaves and baby birds soon—and it has us thinking about all the animals in our lives, as well as the ones in local shelters.

Bringing home a rescue pet doesn’t just give an animal a safe, loving environment—it can transform your life too. From loyal walking companions to cozy couch cuddlers, adopted pets quickly become cherished members of the family. There are shelters all around Morris and Essex just waiting to help you find the perfect new companion, many already house-trained, socialized and eager to bond. (Another upside: adoption fees often include vaccinations and spay/neuter services, making the process both meaningful and practical.)

Check out these friendly faces, each available through local shelters:

2a Cedar

Meet Cedar, a 7-year-old Australian cattle dog! He’s described as “a bundle of joy,” and is very good with both people and other dogs. He’s in need of a new home because his owner developed allergies. Ceder is well-trained and is looking for an adventure buddy who loves the outdoors!
*Available through Eleventh Hour Rescue, Randolph

2b Ethel

Allow us to introduce you to Ethel, a 1-year-old domestic shorthair. She is, according to the shelter, “a little snuggle bug” and the perfect lap cat. She loves string toys and jingle balls, but her absolute favorite activity is being with her human. She’s great with kids and litterbox trained, but needs to be the only pet in the house.
*Available through Rosemary’s Rescue Ranch, Verona

2c Orlando

Orlando is a young, purebred Olde English bulldog. He’s affectionate, loves treats and toys and absolutely adores going for a swim. He also already knows the “sit” command and can walk on a leash, though he needs a little more gentle training to help with his puppy tendencies. He’s neutered, up to date on vaccines and needs to be the only pet in the house.
*Available through Montclair Township Animal Shelter, Montclair

2d Cheese Ball

Here’s Cheese Ball, a young domestic shorthair who is “independent, observant and perfectly content doing things on her own terms.” She’s the perfect companion for someone on-the-go and looking for a quiet presence to share space with.
*Available through Mt. Pleasant Animal Shelter, East Hanover
