New Jersey is known for being a little bit weird and wacky (there are niche publications dedicated to it), and Asbury Park is one of its wildest spots. It’s filled with artists, musicians and creatives, and you’re just as likely to run into a music legend as you are to run into an innovative art installation. On a recent evening walk with his dog, Piper, Asbury Park local Kristopher Chulsky saw something unexpected on Cookman Avenue: a stilt walker, Hannah “Egret” Lemke, strolling in the other direction. He caught the moment and posted it to his Instagram. Lemke is known for hitting the streets in costume and on stilts. “It’s always great to see her around town performing,” says Chulsky. “She brings smiles to people’s faces—although Piper may have been confused as to why this human was so tall!” He also adds that the moments seemed emblematic of his favorite parts of the city. “There is always something to stumble upon and experience in Asbury,” he says.
