Few food scents rival chestnuts roasting on an open fire, but the aroma of a hot soft pretzel comes close.

Few food scents rival chestnuts roasting on an open fire, but the aroma of a hot soft pretzel comes close. Perhaps the two are in a knotted tie!

Be sure to get your fix of this doughy, delicious delight in April, National Soft Pretzel Month. Luckily, they’re easy to find in Monmouth County. If you’d like to grab a bite while shopping, visit Auntie Ann’s Pretzels at Monmouth Mall, or check out Wetzel’s Pretzels at Freehold Raceway Mall. There’s also a large number of Philly Pretzel Factories to be found locally (there’s one in Eatontown, Hazlet and Howell, just to name a few locations). Of course, you’ll likely spot a vendor or two at a ballpark, carnival or fair.

Most of those makers will even let you watch as the bakers flip, twist and tie the treats before they’re baked. The only dilemma is whether you will eat it plain or with mustard. Enjoy!
