We always knew Bergenites step up when their neighbors need help, and we saw it firsthand at Overpeck Park last Thursday. That’s when Bergen County and its Office of Food Security teamed up with the Community FoodBank of New Jersey to hold an emergency food distribution event. There, food and other essentials were handed out to residents whose SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits were interrupted by the government shutdown. The county posted this video on its social media channels showing the hundreds of staff and volunteers who stepped up to lend a helping hand during the program. Nearly 1,000 households were served during the program, ensuring that “our neighbors do not go hungry,” County Executive James Tedesco notes. Want to help out?
