Not-So-Ruff Life

In need of last-minute care for your pooch? Barkly Pets, a phone app based out of Newark, connects dog walkers with owners in need of help. The project was founded in DC in 2015 and recently expanded to New Jersey.
NJ residents can get connected with an available certified walker in less than 60 minutes, then pay $18 for a half hour walk; 80% of the profits go to the walker. Who comprises the app’s dog-walking staff? Similar to Uber, Barkly utilizes locals looking to make extra cash; only those over 18 years of age who pass a background check and have consistent access to the app on their smart phone are considered.
