Rock Around the Clock – Jersey Style
Morris Museum celebrates Jersey's contribution to Rock & Roll throughout the years.
From the Jersey Shore, to the Cake Boss, to Jerseylicious, New Jersey is getting more attention now than it ever has. Although us proud Jersey residents may know that the Garden State is more than a bunch of crazy Italians with big hair and caked on bronzer (sorry Snooki), outsiders might be a little less informed. That is why it is refreshing to hear that the Morris Museum in Morristown has made the effort to make our beloved state known for something a little more respectable – Rock and Roll. Now this is something to fist pump about!
Their newest exhibit is titled Jersey Rocks: A History of Rock and Roll in the Garden State and it is open through September 5th. This showcase is designed to show Jersey’s contribution to the rise of the Rock and Roll movement starting in the late 1940’s all the way through the present. Each era contains specific stories about different singers, instruments, and locations originating in New Jersey that has influenced rock and roll. What is most exciting about this exhibit is that it is a hands-on showcase where visitors are encouraged to design their own album cover, as well as share their personal memories about rock and roll in New Jersey on the “talk back” wall. There are also question cards located at certain sections of the exhibit, which ask visitors to reflect on the first record, album, 8-track, or CD that they have ever purchased, along with local concerts they have attended and what venues they were located at.
Go wild like Teresa from the Real Housewives of New Jersey, because this exhibit is definitely something to freak out about. Go online to http://www.morrismuseum.org/ for more information and celebrate the birth of Rock & Roll – Jersey Style, because if there’s one thing we all can agree on it’s that Jersey does everything bigger and better!
