How about a fun, calm outdoor activity in the warm summer sun? Whether you’re a novice or an advanced paddler, join a Park System Naturalist for a peaceful paddle on the lovely Navesink River.
On the Eco-Kayak Drop-in Tour enjoy some fun in the sun, a bit of exercise, and a look at the native wildlife. As you paddle along the tranquil waters, keep your eyes pealed for the Navesink River’s active tidal ecosystem. On this popular tour you could discover Osprey platforms and search for Terrapin Turtles, Laughing Gulls, Herons, and Egrets.
This safe, guided tour with environmental interpretation is a perfect way to unwind and take pleasure in the smooth, scenic glide of the kayak. If you don’t have your own equipment do not count yourself out! You can rent a Park System kayak (single and tandem kayaks are available) and equipment including a paddle and life vest at the location.
Be sure to wear water appropriate clothing as you may encounter a splash or two on the quest for wildlife sightings. Feel free to pack the essentials such as refreshments, sunscreen, binoculars, and a waterproof camera.
Meet at the Claypit Creek section of Hartshorne Woods Park, 239 Locust Avenue, Rumson, NJ. Tour dates are as follows; July 7th from 3 p.m.- 4:30 p.m., July 19th from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., and July 21st from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. The cost is $20 per person (cash or check) and under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
