When you wake up to a blanket of snow on the ground, it’s tempting to pull the covers over your head and let yourself drift back to sleep. Not so for Sean Guzman of Bloomfield, who welcomed a snowy New Year’s Day with an affirmation-filled run through the Oak View section of his town. “I wanted to provide some motivation for people starting the new year with goals, or wanting to create a better version of themselves,” he says. “We get wrapped up in this ‘New Year, New Me’ mantra and solely focus on the end result. We forget to enjoy the journey, trust the process and try to find consistency.” Guzman would know—he’s been a dedicated runner since 2013 and needed to rehabilitate a full reconstructive surgery after he tore his ACL in 2015. He says, “I’m currently training for Tokyo Marathon on March 1. That continues my journey to complete the original six world major marathons.” After Tokyo, the only one left on his list is Boston.
