When Bruce Wiener introduces himself as Bruce the Bed King, he’s not bragging. It’s because he knows more about beds and mattresses than anyone else. For over 40 years he’s sold mattresses and beds from his landmark store in Hackensack and on Route 17 in Paramus. The original Bed Kings, Bruce’s father and uncle, opened the first ever mattress-only specialty store in 1954. Since their retirement in 1995, Bruce and his cousin, Robert, have continued their fathers’ old-fashioned retail philosophies. “We are the only furniture/mattress store I know of that doesn’t pay salespeople commission,” Bruce said. This allows customers to choose the proper mattress without being pressured or over-sold. Bruce depends on referred and repeat business, so his customers’ satisfaction is a top priority. “Robert and I have over 85 years of combined experience,” says Bruce. “That’s why we’re often asked to solve mattress and bed issues that leave other mattress retailers scratching their heads.”
