The Face of Mexican Dining: Howie Felixbrod

“WHAT’S A NICE JEWISH BOY like you doing in the Mexican food business?” Howie Felixbrod, owner of Blue Moon Mexican Café, frequently gets that question. “My family has always been in the food business,” says Howie, whose grandmother owned bakeries and diners while his dad opened one of the first Mexican restaurants on Manhattan’s trendy Columbus Avenue. In 1987, Howie, his brother and ex-NY Ranger George McPhee opened the first Blue Moon on 8th Avenue in Chelsea. He soon opened a “Manhattanstyle Mexican” restaurant in Englewood which led to several locations in Bergen County and Bronxville. Blue Moon just opened the latest location in Boca Raton. “I love giving guests a mini-vacation with a great meal and a great time,” he says. The eclectic and traditional Mexican food has won several awards, such as Best of Bergen and Westchester Counties. Howie and his family live in Wyckoff where he is president of the Wyckoff Chamber of Commerce and involved in other community activities.
