With autumn in full swing and cooler days ahead, the weekend offers the perfect excuse to savor the season with family and friends. Whether you’re looking for outdoor excitement or cozy community gatherings, these local events right here in Bergen County are sure to add a little warmth to your mid-November days:

Nov. 14

  • Legendary comedian Jay Leno stops by the Bergen Performing Arts Center in Englewood for a one-night stand-up show. The event will feature Leno’s sharp, crowd-pleasing comedy act that continues to delight fans across generations. The curtain goes up at 8 p.m., and tickets are available online.

Nov. 14–15

  • Craving cool jazz? Brvsh Cu7ur3 (pronounced “Brush Culture”) in Teaneck welcomes American jazz trumpet player Jon Faddis for six separate sets over two nights. Faddis is a noted educator, teaching at the Conservatory of Music at Purchase College-SUNY, and has led several major ensembles, including the Carnegie Hall Jazz Band and the Dizzy Gillespie Alumni All-Stars. Nov. 14–16

  • Bundle up and bring your crew to Let It Glow, the holiday lantern spectacular at the Bergen County Zoo in Paramus. Enjoy more than 40 dazzling lantern scenes, s’mores, a fire pit, a train ride and more. The show opens at 4 p.m. each day, and tickets can be purchased online.
  • The Players Guild of Leonia returns with a new musical, Where The Time Goes. Directed by Michael Bias and musically directed by Victoria Casella, the show follows Amy and Michael’s love story through the highs and lows of the ’60s and is set to the iconic hits of the Baby Boomer era. Friday and Saturday performances begin at 8 p.m., and the Sunday show starts at 2 p.m. Reserve your tickets online.

Nov. 15

  • Thanksgiving is about two weeks away, but turkey trot season is well underway. The Rochelle Park Turkey Trot is open to all, from casual walkers to elite runners, and will take participants on a 5K route through Saddle River County Park. Registration and bib pickup starts at 8 a.m., and the race kicks off at 9 a.m. Advance registration and more details are available online.
  • Start the day with a story and the great outdoors at Tenafly Nature Center’s Nature Story Time. The event, geared for families with children ages 3 to 7, includes a nature-themed story and a visit from one of the center’s animal ambassadors.   • Start your holiday shopping at the grand opening of The Hermitage’s Holiday Marketplace. The historic mansion in Ho-Ho-Kus welcomes visitors to browse the handpicked and handmade gifts starting at noon. Admission is free.
  • The popular Teachers Gone Bad show returns to Bananas Comedy Club in Rutherford. The performance stars former teachers who talk about embarrassing and school-related topics as well as family, parenthood, dating, marriage and other life experiences on stage. Doors open at 3 p.m. for the 4 p.m. show. Tickets are available online. Parents, you’ll want to leave the kids with a sitter for this one.
  • Return to bergenPAC to see the best furry performers at The Canine Stars Stunt Dog Show. The 3 p.m. performance will feature incredible pups who have appeared on America’s Got Talent, Nickelodeon Unleashed and American Ninja Warrior. Find out more and reserve your seats online.
  • Let’s go to the movies! Enjoy a screening of Tootsie, which is playing at 5 p.m. at the Barrymore Film Center in Fort Lee. The film, starring Dustin Hoffman, tells the story of Michael Dorsey, an unsuccessful actor, who disguises himself as a woman in order to get a role on a trashy hospital soap.   • Lace up your cowboy boots and enjoy an evening of line dancing at Boots and Bandanas, a fundraiser for Bergen County Horse Rescue. The event, held at the Mahwah Elks Lodge, starts at 6 p.m. and includes a buffet dinner, drinks, raffles, a tricky tray and plenty of line dancing. Nov. 16

  • Join nature lovers at the Bergen County Audubon Society’s Mid-November Walk, starting at 10 a.m. at Teaneck Creek Conservancy. Birders of all levels and interests can join the free guided stroll. Dress accordingly for the rain or shine event. Details are available online.
  • Bring the gang to Flat Rock Brook Nature Center for an exciting Family Scavenger Hunt. Groups can enjoy an animal meet-and-greet and an easy hike while searching for hidden treasures throughout the center. The free event starts at 11 a.m.
