Whose Bagel Is Best?

The Taylor ham vs. pork roll debate may never end, but one thing is certain: You know exactly which bagel shop makes a great sandwich. Your favorite bagel store may be around the corner, or it may require a trip up Route 17. It may even have locations scattered throughout the county. Regardless, Bergenites will do anything and travel almost anywhere for a killer bagel.

But which one is truly the best? You can tell us your top choice in BERGEN’s 2025 Readers’ Choice Awards. Online voting is now open in the Best Bagel category (it’s first on the ballot!) as well as dozens of others. Polls close April 15, and all the winners will be revealed in our September issue.

Not sure which Bergen bagel shop to vote for? On Jan. 15, National Bagel Day, or any day for that matter, head to one of the following Bergen County’s stores, each either a past Readers’ Choice winner or highly rated online.

  • Bagel Box, 191 Rte. 46, Little Ferry, 201.853.9512. A wide variety of bagels and cream cheese options await hungry visitors.
  • Bagel & More, 1040 River Rd., Edgewater, 201.886.1112. Customers return for this shop’s bagels as well as its pastries and other breakfast and lunchtime menu items.
  • Bagel Nosh, 24 E. Prospect St., Waldwick, 201.652.9746. This shop is a staple in the community and is a consistent honoree in the Readers’ Choice contest. (It won first place in 2023!)
  • Goldberg’s, 327 Franklin Ave., Wyckoff, 201.847.9199. The runner-up in last year’s Readers’ Choice poll is perennial contest favorite and go-to for many bagel lovers in the county.
  • Goldberg’s Famous, various locations. Four Bergen towns (Bogota, Emerson, Northvale and Westwood) are home to this local favorite, which prides itself on its bagels and friendly service.
  • Kinderkamack Hot Bagels, 935 Kinderkamack Rd., River Edge, 201.967.1710. This shop attracts bagel seekers from all over the county and beyond. The handmade spreads and coffee are fan favorites.
  • Ridge Road Bagel, 649 Ridge Rd., Lyndhurst, 201.842.0938. Online reviews rave about this Southern Bergen hot spot, especially their bagel sandwiches. The asiago bagel is a must try.
  • River Road Hot Bagels, 13-30 River Rd., Fair Lawn, 201.791.5646. Customers agree that the bagels and service here rank among the best in the region.
  • Ronnie’s Hot Bagels, 118 Broadway, Hillsdale, 201.664.4543. Another frequent Readers’ Choice honoree, this cozy bagel shop always delivers big bites.
  • Teaneck Road Hot Bagels, 976 Teaneck Rd., Teaneck, 201.833.0410. This local favorite was named the best bagel shop in last year’s Readers’ Choice Poll.
