There’s still time to finish holiday shopping, and with a plethora of local stores and great gift ideas, you’ll surely check off everyone on your list. But if you’re worn out from the mad dash to buy presents and prepare holiday dinners, now is the perfect time to take a breather and have a little fun.

Below are a few ways you can step away from the kitchen and the long lines at the mall, and simply relax with a few laughs, a movie or music, a craft project or Mother Nature. Check out these Bergen County events happening this weekend:

Dec. 20

Comedy Showcase, Tommy Fox’s, Bergenfield. Everyone needs a laugh this time of year, and there will be plenty at The Basement at Tommy’s. Local comics will take the stage beginning at 7 p.m., and the restaurant’s full food and drink menu will be available.

Howdy Stranger Holiday Spectacle, Hackensack Performing Arts Center, Hackensack. For some interactive laughs, check out this improv comedy show, which has a holiday twist. Admission is $20.

Dec. 21

NJ Photo Expo, Bergen County Camera, Westwood. Whether you’re a seasoned shutterbug or someone just starting out, you’ll find what you need at this annual event. Some of the photo industry’s top vendors will be on hand, and attendees also can take advantage of giveaways, raffles and more. The expo runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Holiday Arts and Crafts, Bergen Town Center, Paramus. Show off your creative side with a holiday-themed arts and crafts project that you can display in your home. The event also will feature Slime Empire, an interactive slime-making station for kids. The fun starts at 11 a.m. and will go on until supplies run out.

Holiday Centerpiece Workshop, Abma’s Farm, Wyckoff. Design an elegant centerpiece using greens, pinecones and other decorations. The workshop is geared toward older teens and adults. A $20 deposit is required for the 11 a.m. event.

It’s A Wonderful Life, Barrymore Film Center, Fort Lee. Is it even the holidays if you didn’t watch this classic starring James Stewart? Tickets for the special 4:30 p.m. screening are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and children under 10.

Winter Festival, Ethical Culture Society, Teaneck. Join an intergenerational community potluck dinner at 5 p.m. The event also includes entertainment and activities for children. Be sure to sign up and bring a dish of your choice.

Dec. 22

Festivus Eve Nature Walk, DeKorte Park, Lyndhurst. Need a break from the hustle and bustle of the season? Join the Bergen County Audubon Society for a stroll through this park, home to songbirds, waterfowl and raptors. The walk begins at 10 a.m.

Characters of the Dream Parade, American Dream, East Rutherford. Head to the mall’s Dream Stage on level 1 at 3 p.m. to watch the beloved costumed characters from Nickelodeon Universe, DreamWorks Water Park and more march in a holiday parade.

All Seasons Chamber Players concert, Bergenfield Library, Bergenfield. Enjoy the sounds of the season as this group performs ’Tis the Season: Music from Corelli to Coleman. The show begins at 3 p.m. and is free for all.
