10 Ways To Step Into The Great Outdoors
Ready to get outside? Whether you’re looking for sports, scavenger hunts or nature walks, there are spring activities for everyone in Bergen County.

Feel that sunshine! After a rainy start to April, we’re looking forward to bright days and temperatures in the 65-to-70-degree range. If you’re like us, you’re fully ready for spring: You’re prepared for allergy season, stocked up on gardening advice and excited to spend more time outside.
BERGEN is here to help you get into the outdoor action. We compiled the following spring to-do list, which has gatherings and events that’ll put you in the mood for the season:
- Head over to Teaneck Creek Conservatory on April 13 for its Community Science Saturday, where guests are treated to a guided walk to spotlight newly sprouted plants and animal tracks, and are taught how to document them. Registration is recommended.
- This Sunday, you can check out the Latin Food Festival from noon until 7 p.m. in the Nordstrom parking lot at Garden State Plaza. Pick up amazing street-style tacos, empanadas, arepas and more, all while enjoying live Latin music and dance performances.
- This weekend, April 13-14, the Tenafly Nature Center holds its annual Seasonal Scavenger Hunt to welcome the spring. Participating families will receive printed clues to help them independently solve riddles all over the nature center’s trails. Check-in is between 1 and 2 p.m., and registration is recommended.
- If you’re looking for a unique gift (or getting a head start on that Mother’s Day shopping), Kaplen JCC on the Palisades hosts a Spring Boutique starting at 10 a.m., featuring jewelry, clothes and home goods from local vendors. Twenty percent of proceeds support the Leonard & Syril Rubin Early Childhood Center.
- If you’re in the mood for gardening and want to bring your lawn to the next level this season, Rohsler’s Allendale Nursery is hosting a Q&A with a Jonathan Green Lawn Care expert this Sunday, April 14. Stop by for individualized attention and tips on how to achieve the lawn of your dreams.
- You’ve heard of a paint and sip, now try a plant and sip. Stokes Farm in Old Tappan is holding a Plant & Sip Mixed Planter Workshop on April 18, starting at 5:30 p.m. The farm’s gardening experts will help you select the perfect flowers for your planter while you relax, garden and chat with your friends.
- The Ramsey Farmers’ Market runs year-round, but it’s a treat in the spring months. This weekend, the market welcomes back JD Gourmet and their specialty vinegars and olive oils, as well as favorites such as Edgwick Farm, Grandma Emma’s Cobblers and many more.
- Grab your racket and get moving with Montclair Pickleball, based in Fair Lawn. For those who know their way around a court already, they offer open play times five days a week with multiple time options. If you’re just picking up the sport, not to worry—you can take one of their beginner’s clinics to learn.
- If you prefer a hands-free sport, Bergen County Pick-Up Soccer hosts a Saturday morning drop-in game every week for adults at Veteran’s Field in Saddle Brook. Stop by for some friendly competition.
- The Bergen County Zoo in Paramus is now open for the season. Both the train and carousal are now running daily for visitors, and their Education & Discovery Center has resumed their extended spring and summer hours.
