3 New Bergen Coffee Shops To Get You Through January
These cups of joe will get you through the month and then some.

Ready for January to end? Turns out there’s a scientific reason why the first month of the calendar year feels like it goes on forever. Experts say that it has to do with our internal dopamine clock—dopamine is the hormone that’s released by our brains in response to pleasure or excitement. In January, the holidays are over, you’re back to your daily grind at work and summer is still many months away—basically, it’s one of the least pleasurable and eventful months of the year, which explains in part why it seems never-ending.
And though we can’t change the way our brains work or when we officially flip the page on the calendar, we can alleviate the feeling of long days with caffeine. These three new coffee shops opened in Bergen County just in time for the “longest month ever” (which in reality is only 31 days). So give ’em a try when you need a caffeine kick:
Cabana Coffee, Glen Rock. You know how craft beers are all the rage in our area? So is craft coffee. At Cabana Coffee, the coffee beans are sourced from around the world and then roasted in-house for the ultimate flavor, plus there are some barista-made beverages to choose from too. Cabana Coffee has been in Wayne for a while, but just debuted this Bergen spot at its grand opening on Jan. 15.

Cortaditos, East Rutherford. Havana, oh na na—now in Bergen County! Cortaditos at The Food Hall at American Dream opened just before the holidays, bringing a taste of Cuba to the Meadowlands. The menu is stocked with “Cuban coffee Y mas,” the “more” being authentic Cuban snacks like empanadas, flan and pastelitos, as well as sandwiches and light on-the-go meals.

Stimulatte, Hackensack. See what they did there? Stimulatte by BOND is a new addition to the county seat, combining top-notch coffee drinks with an artful experience. The shop features purple walls, interesting paintings and bright-green coffee cups to give it a design feel. And the drinks itself are artful (and delish) too. Plus, all syrups are made in-house.
