6 Last-Minute Activities For Mother’s Day

No reservations? No problem! Treat Mom to one of these fun Bergen ideas this weekend.
Flowers And Mothers Day Card

Mother’s Day is right around the corner, so if you forgot that it’s on Sunday you might be faced with a dilemma—reservations at some of the best brunch places are filled up and gift store shelves are nearly picked clean. Here’s some good news: You can still give Mom the day she deserves!

Whether you’re looking for a quick plan or something extra to add to the celebration, here are six last-minute activities your mom will love:

  • For an early celebration, stop by the Montvale Council Chambers on Saturday afternoon for a special Mother’s Day concert. Presented by Francine Evans and Joel Zelnik, the program features songs celebrating mothers from the turn-of-the-century until today. The music begins at noon, and admission is free.
  • A family that works out together stays together, and you can treat yourself and your mom to a free rooftop yoga class at Ridgewood’s Fitometry. Call ahead to reserve your spot; the class begins at 9 a.m.
  • Put your putting skills to the test at one of Bergen’s mini golf courses. Whether you want to spend some time indoors at Monster Mini Golf in Paramus or Blacklight Mini Golf in East Rutherford, or head outside at Closter Golf Center, this is a great casual game for Mom and the entire family.
  • Speaking of outside, Bergen’s public gardens make a great destination for a peaceful walk and a scenic day trip. Check out The Gardens of Wyckoff, which are filled with bright flowers and hidden gazebos, or Davis Johnson Park & Gardens in Tenafly, which also includes a greenhouse to browse. A drive to New Jersey Botanical Garden in nearby Ringwood is always worth seeing as well.
  • Sometimes, the best kinds of celebrations are quiet ones. Head over to any of Bergen’s many public parks—we recommend Saddle River County Park or Overpeck Park—for a walk along the water and a picnic lunch. Reconnect with nature and enjoy each other’s company.
  • Let her choose out her own gift as you browse the Ramsey Farmers’ Market. This Sunday, the market is also hosting the MEVO Plant Sale, offering a huge selection of herbs and vegetable seedlings.
