Bergen County isn’t called the shopping mecca of New Jersey for nothing. New restaurants, clothing stores, grocery stores and more are constantly opening up in our area, giving residents no excuse but to get out of the house and shop local.

Here are six new spots that recently opened or will open soon in various towns within our county:

Restaurants:

Fig & Tomato in Hillsdale is a BYO, family-owned Italian restaurant brand new to the Pascack Valley. Choose from pizza, pasta, chicken, meat or fish, plus apps and desserts. Bring your pals (and your appetite) in supporting our newest establishment.
*100 Park Ave., Hillsdale, 201.722.8880

Verana in Norwood is slated for a fall opening and will be a “high-end Italian restaurant.” Few details were available at the time of this post (including its exact location), but we do know that the chef here formerly worked at Del Posto in Manhattan, a highly acclaimed Italian restaurant that shut its doors in 2021.

Grocery stores:

Amazon Fresh in Paramus has been all over the headlines lately, and for good reason: It officially opened as the first-of-its-kind brick and mortar store in New Jersey, with a second Bergen spot expected to come at a later date in Lodi. This 40,000 square-foot grocery store is famous for its “Just Walk out” shopping—you pay by scanning a code on your phone or with a credit card after you leave the store, rather than by waiting in a checkout line. The future is now, folks.
*30 E. Ridgewood Ave., Paramus

Whole Foods in Woodcliff Lake, meanwhile, opened its doors on Wednesday, July 27, to shoppers in the Pascack Valley area. The 47,000 square-foot supermarket features thousands of organic products, including produce sourced from local farms. As with other Whole Foods locations, this one also has a prepared foods section with sandwiches, pizza, sushi and salads.

Residential properties:

The District in Montvale is a long-awaited real estate property that’s now officially move-in ready. Here, you’ll find 1- and 2-bedroom luxury apartments available for lease and an endless number of communal amenities, including an outdoor pool, yoga lounge, co-working space, a fitness center and more. Plus, it’s right across from The Shoppes at DePiero Farm, featuring everything a neighborhood needs: Wegmans, Starbucks, Habit Burger, First Watch Café, Beets Juice Bar, Orangetheory Fitness, Ulta Beauty, CityMD and more eateries and retailers.
*100 Market St., Montvale, 551.227.2776

Paris Square Condominiums in Northvale held a ribbon-cutting ceremony last week to celebrate the opening of its final section of luxury units. This “active adult” community features townhomes and condos, as well as an outdoor pool, putting green, fitness center, a clubhouse and more. It’s directly across from the Rockleigh Golf Club, convenient for whenever you want to practice your swing.
