We’re still a few days away from Halloween, so you’ll have to put the trick-or-treating excitement on hold for now. What, then, can you and your family and friends do until then?

If you want to embrace the spooky spirit, take a drive for a family adventure: Demarest Farms in Hillsdale is holding its annual Halloween Light Show, while these Bergen neighborhoods have gone all out with the holiday décor. Below are more places you and your crew can have fun:

The Wrath of Cyrus Grain, Oct. 25–27. Darlington Lake in Mahwah hosts one of North Jersey’s best outdoor haunted trails. There is a 20-minute hayride for families with younger children and a 30-minute walking trail (wear comfortable shoes) through the woods for thrill seekers. Visit their website for times and tickets.

Tice’s Corner Fall Harvest Festival, Oct. 26. Visit the popular Woodcliff Lake shopping destination wearing a costume or your favorite fall garb and enjoy trick-or-treating, games, face painting and more. The fun is free and takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Not Too Spooky Haunted House, Oct. 26–27. The Ethical Culture Society of Bergen County in Teaneck holds a creepy carnival that’s geared for the 12-and-under crowd (but will entertain everyone). Tickets are $15 for either Saturday (4 to 8 p.m.) or Sunday (noon to 4 p.m.) sessions.

Fall Family Fun Street Fair, Oct. 27. Garfield’s annual street fair takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. along Midland Avenue, where visitors can enjoy food, kids’ activities, live music and more than 100 exhibitors.

Fall Food Festival, Oct. 27. St. Thomas Armenian Church in Tenafly is hosting an Armenian and Mediterranean food festival from noon to 6 p.m. The festivities also include kids’ activities, music, face painting and more.

Rock Out Lung Cancer 2024, Oct. 27. Head to the Taverna on the Green in Paramus from 2 to 6 p.m. for a silent auction, tricky tray and live music by both the Earthgrinders band and performer Tommy Scala. Tickets are $50, and proceeds will benefit Memorial Sloan Kettering’s lung cancer research.
