Who doesn’t love an excuse to go out and feast on a big breakfast? Whether you’re enjoying a weekend morning tradition, grabbing some breakfast for dinner or celebrating an important event with an extravagant brunch, nothing hits the spot like eggs, bacon, pancakes and waffles.
Whatever the reason (maybe you want to celebrate National Waffle Day on Aug. 24?), you’ll find some truly special breakfast spots in Bergen County. And, as our September issue and the unveiling of our 2024 READERS’ CHOICE AWARD winners creeps closer, we wanted to celebrate your 2023 favorites before the new honorees are announced. Chit Chat Diner: Over in Hackensack, this diner has every breakfast option you can imagine and then some. Enjoy a specialty omelet or one of their more elaborate creations—we’re eyeing The Stack, a Belgian waffle with chocolate ice cream, candied pecans, strawberries and raspberry sauce.

Raymond’s: You can get all the classics and more at this Ridgewood favorite. Make your own omelet, enjoy some huevos rancheros or try pancakes with the special wild Maine blueberry sauce.

River Edge Diner: There’s no need to overcomplicate what works. Large portions, fluffy pancakes, crispy waffles and eggs any way you can imagine them are served up here.

State Line Diner: You can swing by this Mahwah staple for a quintessential diner breakfast any hour you’re craving it. Want something more special? Willow & Whisk: This Wyckoff restaurant takes its breakfast seriously. Satisfy your sweet tooth with either the lemon ricotta pancakes or the brioche French toast with orange-honey butter, or sample any of their many, many egg dishes, from omelets to scrambles to breakfast bowls.
