9 Comedy Shows That’ll Keep You Laughing
In the mood for fun? Celebrity comedians and local up-and-comers alike will deliver side-splitting laughter this month.

If the humidity’s making you cranky or the world news is making you stressed, a little laughter can lighten the mood. A good laugh and a few smiles can lift spirits and do your body good—for instance, the extra intake of oxygen can stimulate the heart, lungs and muscles, according to the Mayo Clinic.
You can, of course, stay at home and stream your favorite show or catch a few reruns of a classic sitcom. Or you can round up your crew and make a fun night out of it. Below is a list of upcoming comedy shows in our area that are guaranteed to deliver the kind of joy that’s both contagious and entirely beneficial:
- June 14: Booyah! Restaurant & Bar at the Hilton Hotel in Mahwah will feature a comedy show with funnymen Joey Vega, Bob Gonzo and more. Tickets to the 7 p.m. event include dinner and a cash bar. Purchase tickets online.
- June 14: The Basement at Tommy Fox’s in Bergenfield presents Carl’s Comedy Showcase at 7 p.m. This show will include local comedians Jon Ladder, Jason Berdan and more! Tickets are available in advance through Tommy Fox’s website, or they can be purchased at the door (an additional charge will be assessed).
- June 15: Treat Dad and the entire family to Earthquake’s Father’s Day Comedy show featuring Earthquake, DeRay Davis, Chico Bean and B. Simone at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark. The laughs start at 7 p.m., and tickets are available at NJPAC’s website.
- June 20: International comedian, writer and director Demetri Martin brings his “Quick Draw Tour” to the Wellmont Theater in nearby Montclair for a 6:30 p.m. show. He starred in his own Comedy Central series Important Things with Demetri Martin, and his fiction has appeared in The New Yorker, Esquire and The New York Times Magazine. - June 20: Mike Hanford of Comedy Bang Bang and The Tonight Show will perform at the Williams Center in Rutherford at 8 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online or at the door. (An additional fee will be charged for tickets bought at the door.)
- June 20–21: Standup veteran and familiar face of Dry Bar Comedy Jeff Allen will make audiences laugh for a two-night stint at Bananas Comedy Club in Rutherford. His humor covers everything from marriage to family life. The Friday show starts at 7 p.m., while Saturday performances are at 6 and 8 p.m. Purchase tickets online.
- June 22: Return to Bananas to catch social media sensation Lisa Marie Riley, aka @onefunnylisamarie, for a live fan event. She’ll deliver her daily musings on life and parenthood at 4:30 and 7 p.m. Tickets are available at Bananas’ website.
- June 22: Comedy icons and SNL legends Tina Fey and Amy Poehler will stop at the Prudential Center in Newark as part of the duo’s “Restless Leg Tour.” The 6 p.m. performance also is one of the main events of the annual North to Shore Festival, which features music and comedy performances as well as fundraising events throughout the state during June. Tickets to see Fey and Poehler are available online.
- June 28: Actor and comedian Richard Kind will bring his stand-up set to the Bergen Performing Arts Center in Englewood and hold a Q&A session after his performance. Showtime is 8 p.m., and tickets can be purchased at bergenPAC’s website.
