9 Cool Events To Attend This Weekend

Looking for family fun? Craving outdoor adventures? Whatever summer pleasure you seek, you’ll find it in Bergen.

With Independence Day’s fireworks fading in the rearview, we’re heading into a glorious stretch of hot summer days—and the ever-important question of how to spend them. Will you take the kids on a day trip? Sample some standout local eats? Ogle the hot wheels at a car show? Or just kick back and lounge by the backyard pool?

Whatever your summer vibe, there’s no shortage of fun right here in Bergen. From outdoor adventures and lively fairs to great live music and more, summer’s best moments are waiting. Here’s what to check out:

July 11–12

  • Tenafly Nature Center’s butterfly house is now open for children ages 4 and up to enjoy! Stop by for special butterfly feedings and see these marvels of nature up close. Kids will also take home a “seed ball” filled with pollinator-friendly flower seeds. Multiple times are available on Friday and Saturday.
  • In Lyndhurst, enjoy rides, games, live music, raffles and more at the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Feast. This always-anticipated event keeps the fun rolling all evening, from 6 to 10 p.m. on Friday and 5 to 11 p.m. on Saturday. See website for rates and a schedule of music events.

July 11

  • At Atlantic Street Park in Hackensack, enjoy a free outdoor concert presented by the Hackensack Performing Arts Center. Local band Rock Solid will bring the sounds of classic and hard rock from the ’70s to the ’90s to you. The show starts at 7 p.m.
  • Head over to Van Saun County Park in Paramus and enjoy a free outdoor screening of Paddington in Peru, rated PG-13. Be sure to bring your own blankets or chairs! The movie starts at 8:30 p.m.
  • Join Teaneck Creek Conservancy and Bergen County Audubon Society for a fun and educational Moth Night! Come learn how to identify these pollinators of the night. This event is free, though registration is recommended, and all ages are welcome. The fun starts at 8:30 p.m.

June 12

  • Watch history come to life during a Revolutionary War Re-Enactment at the Hermitage in Ho-Ho-Kus. See craft and historical food demonstrations and tour the grounds where General George Washington once walked. Everything begins at 10 a.m.
  • The Bergen County Historical Society presents its annual Vintage Baseball game. Come see the Flemington Neshanocks and The Enterprise Club of New Bridge, dressed in vintage uniforms, play America’s pastime using 19th century baseball rules. The game starts at 11 a.m.
  • Bring the kids to Bergen Town Center in Paramus for the Candy Twisted Balloon Show, which combines magic tricks, laugh-out-loud comedy and, of course, balloon animals for an unforgettable performance. Shows are at 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
  • The Ethical Cultural Society of Bergen County holds its City of Water Day at the Fairleigh Dickinson University campus in Hackensack, part of a region-wide celebration to “champion a climate-resilient New York and New Jersey harbor.” Activities include hands-on demonstrations and educational talks.
