The Paris Games are winding down and it’ll be a few more weeks until the next holiday, so what’s there to do in the in-between? Don’t let the dog days get you down, because there’s plenty to do in Bergen that’ll amuse and entertain everyone in your crew. The options run the gamut, from exciting indoor playgrounds and cool splash pads (including the recently reopened facility at Van Saun Park) to fun trivia nights and relaxing fishing spots.
If you’re looking for something specific to enjoy this weekend, below are a few ideas that’ll make you forget about the heat and the rain and are perfect for families and friends.
Now through Aug. 11
- 95th Annual Saint Rocco Feast, Fort Lee. The family-friendly Italian festival along Main Street features food, games, raffles, live entertainment and much more. Hours for the rain or shine event are: 6 to 11 p.m. on weekdays, 4 to 11 p.m. on Saturday and 2 to 11 p.m. on Sunday.
Aug. 9
- Sounds of Summer Concert Series, Hackensack, 7 p.m. Head to Atlantic Street Park at the Hackensack Performing Arts Center for an evening performance by Angel LaBoy. Admission is free.
- Everclear at bergenPAC, Englewood, 8 p.m. The ’90s alternative rock band will headline the show, performing some of their most beloved tracks like “Santa Monica,” “Father of Mine” and “Wonderful” as well as deep cuts. Tickets start at $39.
Aug. 10
- Meadowlands Photo Meet-Up, Lyndhurst, 8:30 a.m. Join Bergen County Camera, Sony imaging specialist Jason Etzel and naturalist Jim Wright for a photo walk through DeKorte Park. Attendees will see gardens, birds, butterflies and more along the trails. Guests should arrive early, dress accordingly and have essentials like extra memory cards, batteries, snacks and water. Admission is free but registration is required as space is limited.
- The Hermitage Museum Arts & Crafts Show, Ho-Ho-Kus, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The show will feature 80 arts and crafts exhibitors as well as food, drink and dessert vendors. Admission is $5 and includes a tour of the museum. The event will take place rain or shine.
- Comedy Showcase, Bergenfield, 7 p.m. The Basement at Tommy Fox’s will showcase six top comedians for a night of laughs. Admission is $15 in advance or $20 at the door.
Aug. 10–11
- Mitsuwa Summer Festival, Edgewater, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Head to the Japanese marketplace for two days of games, music, dancing, karaoke, vendors, food, drink, a cosplay event and more. Parking is $10 (including regular marketplace shoppers).
- Demarest Farms Wine Festival, Hillsdale, noon to 5 p.m. Enjoy varieties from six of the region’s top wine producers. Live music and entertainment will take place on both days, and the market will be open selling baked goods, prepared foods and more. Admission is $15 per person and includes a wine glass. Children are welcome to attend, but tastings are for 21+. The event will take place rain or shine.
Aug. 11
- Bergen County Historical Society’s Summer Social, River Edge, 1 to 4 p.m. Bring the family to Historic New Bridge Landing for kite decorating and flying, butter and ice cream making (and tasting!), refreshments and more demonstrations. Tickets are $12.30 for adults, $7.30 for children ages 6 to 21.
