9 Towns Celebrating National Night Out In Bergen County

Join your neighbors at these free town-wide celebrations honoring our first responders the first Tuesday of August.

Want an excuse to go out on a random summer Tuesday? Clear your calendar for Tuesday, Aug. 1, when National Night Out (NNO) will be celebrating its 40th anniversary in the United States.

NNO is an “annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood rapport to make neighborhoods safer, better places to live,” according to a Bergen County press release. And this means many local towns will be holding events that evening featuring free food, fun, demonstrations and more to show appreciation to our police and first responders.

Here’s a rundown of these events in Bergen (all of which are after work and camp, so the whole family can take part). Keep checking back as more will be added as we get closer to the date.

• Glen Rock, Glen Rock Municipal Pool, 5 to 9 p.m., for a swim, some food and meet-and-greets with the members of the borough’s fire and police departments.
• Harrington Park, Highland Field, 6 to 9 p.m. featuring emergency vehicles, food trucks, a DJ and kids’ activities including a train ride, bounce house and face painting.
• New Milford, Kennedy Field, 7 to 10 p.m., for a special fireworks display.
• Palisades Park, Palisades Park Swim Club, 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. with food, drinks, giveaways—the pool will be open for swimming too.
• Paramus, Paramus Public Library, 5 to 7 p.m. with rescue vehicles, crafts, bounce houses, food and more.
• Ridgefield, Veterans Memorial Park, 6 to 10 p.m. with a bouncy house, face painting, balloon animals, a DJ and a movie under the stars.
• Rochelle Park, Midland School, 6 to 9 p.m.
• Rutherford, Lincoln Park, 6 to 8 p.m., featuring free refreshments and kids’ activities.
• Teaneck, Votee Park, 5 to 9 p.m., with entertainment, food and fun.
