5 Eateries To Try Hispanic Flavors

It’s always a food fiesta at these Bergen restaurants, where you can celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month any time of year.

There’s so much to do and commemorate during Hispanic Heritage Month that the yearly celebration bridges two months. Beginning in mid-September and officially ending on Oct. 15, the four-week period recognizes the contributions and influence of Hispanic Americans to U.S. culture. The timeframe includes independence day anniversaries for Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Mexico and Chile.

In Bergen County, where roughly 23 percent of the population has Hispanic ancestry, events observing the holiday have been happening all month long. Celebrations continue on Oct. 7, when the Calpulli Mexican Dance Company offers a culture performance with dancing and song at Ramapo College in Mahwah. For kids, the Paramus Library is hosting a piñata party, complete with crafts and story time, on Oct. 11.

But you can’t have a fiesta without great food, and our county has no shortage of great restaurants specializing in Hispanic cuisine. Below are a few BERGEN favorites worth trying during Hispanic Heritage Month—and any time of year!
