Throughout his 47 years practicing law, Brian J. Neary has learned that “To be a good criminal trial lawyer, one must be part scholar and part warrior.” Designated by the New Jersey Supreme Court as a Certified Criminal Trial Attorney, Brian’s criminal defense practice covers a wide range of cases including fraud, political corruption, murder, sex assault as well as local issues like driving while intoxicated.

While attending New York University School of Law, Brian began honing his skills and gaining a broad understanding of the criminal legal system through his participation in a Criminal Defense Clinic in the New York Criminal Courts. After graduating, Brian served as an Assistant Prosecutor in both Bergen and Hudson counties.

Throughout Brian’s prestigious law career, he has been a highly regarded member of the New Jersey Bar Association and an active member of numerous state committees, currently serving as a Trustee of the New Jersey State Bar Association. Brian was a past president of the Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers of New Jersey as well as the Hudson County, New Jersey Bar Association. He sits on the New Jersey State Criminal Sentencing and Disposition Commission reviewing sentencing laws and recommending reforms. Additionally, he is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, the preeminent organization of trial lawyers in North America, dedicated to maintaining and improving the standards of trial practice, professionalism, ethics and the administration of justice.

Brian has held academic positions at some of the finest legal institutions knowing that an important part of his work involves teaching others about the law. For over three decades, Brian was an Adjunct Professor at Rutgers School of Law and now is a visiting faculty at Notre Dame Law School in Indiana, his undergraduate alma mater. He enjoys teaching continuing education studies in his pursuit of professional development for practicing lawyers.
