Whether the extra pep in your step is chalked up to longer days or warmer weather, one thing is certain: Come Sunday, many of us will be grumps. That’s because we’re losing an hour of precious sleep, the result of Daylight Saving Time (spring those clocks forward on Sunday!).
There are many ways to keep weary eyes open: Stand up and do stretches, take a walk around the neighborhood, listen to the latest tunes. Or you can do it the old-fashioned way and go for an extra cup of coffee!
When your home brew just won’t do and when the lines are too long at the big chain coffeeshops, take a trip to an independent coffeehouse in Bergen County. Aroma D’Café Bakery, Oradell. This Argentinian bakery offers delicious pastries, cookies and more—each the perfect accompaniment to a dulce de leche or other hot coffee.

Bogota Press Café, Bogota. If you’re driving through this small Bergen town, be sure you stop at this artisan café for a sweet (or savory) breakfast snack and coffee. Their drip java is on-point, but don’t be shy about trying something special like a chocolate rose latte or Funfetti iced frap.

Red Kettle Coffee House, East Rutherford. Just off of Route 17 near the Meadowlands is this specialty coffee and espresso shop. Grab a book off the shelf and sit by the plants as baristas prepare anything and everything from lattes to cappuccinos.

Rey Sol Coffee, Ridgewood. This quaint and cozy shop has plenty of snacks and food to keep you full, but the coffee will keep you going. Specialties like the s’mores latte are a treat, but the house blend is just as good!

Rutherford Coffee Company, Rutherford. There’s no shortage of good coffee and tea in the neighborhood, and this shop is second to none. In addition to their brews, the croissants and other pastries are must-tries.
