5 Must-Try Cheesesteaks in Bergen County
You don’t have to travel far (sorry, Philly!) for a bite of these meaty, hearty sandwiches.
Bergenites already know our county is home to some of the region’s best bagels and pizza, but we’re set to claim another culinary crown: cheesesteaks. Sorry, Philly, the late Anthony Bourdain previously identified the Garden State as having the top cheesesteaks in the country, and we have tried several Bergen eateries that chop and cook up some killer sandwiches.
Though you can snag one of these tasty, meaty bites on National Cheesesteak Day, March 24, they’re good any time of the year, especially when you’re packing a picnic, spending a day at the ballpark or simply kicking back in the backyard. Below are some of our favorite spots where you can pick up one (or two, or three) of these special sandwiches when the mood strikes:
B&M Market, Park Ridge. Food lovers know this neighborhood eatery for its selection of salads as well as cold and hot sandwiches. The Go Big or Go Home special is their take on a classic cheesesteak, with overflowing amounts of delicious prime and all-natural ribeye.

Bob-O’s Cheesesteaks, Ridgefield Park. This 4-year-old eatery has drawn the attention of locals and celebs alike (Post Malone’s a fan!) thanks in part to its creative menu and build-your-own options. Their Disco Sandwich, with shaved ribeye, fries and gravy, is heaven on a bun!

Mel’s Butcher Box, Tenafly. Chef Mel Landano’s mouthwatering menu spotlights burgers, but the sliced ribeye cheesesteak is a must-try. Sweet caramelized onions and a special steak sauce aioli give each bite extra flavor.

Mob Pizzeria & Burgers, Hackensack. Pizza pies with fun and fancy names are the big draw at this restaurant, but don’t overlook Mob’s mouthwatering cheesesteak sandwich. They keep theirs nice and easy—shaved ribeye, peppers, onions, cheese—but the flavors are to die for!

Steve’s Burgers, Garfield. Known across the region for tasty, over-the-top burgers, hot dogs and chicken sandwiches, this roadside eatery does memorable cheesesteaks as well. Build yours with all of Steve’s familiar toppings or keep it simple with ribeye, onion and cheese.
