10 Exciting Events To Celebrate Summer

From the State Fair in East Rutherford to campfires in Tenafly, there’s non-stop fun this season in Bergen County.

At last, it’s here! Yesterday was the summer solstice, the longest day of the year—and the official first day of summer. It was also the last day of classes for many public schools in the area.

It certainly feels like summer out there (did you remember to renew your pool membership?), and if you and your family are ready to start celebrating the season, you’re in luck—Bergen is packed with activities for all ages. You can stop by any of these fun and upcoming options (remember to click the links for individual ticket information!):

Now through July 7: The State Fair returns to the Meadowlands, and this is opening weekend! Enjoy more than 100 rides, lots of games and all the fair food staples you’ve been craving. Everything kicks off at 6 p.m. on weekdays and 2 p.m. on weekends.

June 22: For some adult fun, head to the Meadowlands Racing & Entertainment in East Rutherford for Winefest and sample varieties from 30 producers from all over the country, plus food options and live music. The fun starts at 5 p.m.

June 22–23: Teaneck-based gym AUCC is holding its Annual Festival. This event has both indoor and outdoor attractions, including water rides, a petting zoo, a basketball tournament and more. Everything kicks off at noon.

June 23: Bergen County celebrates Pride Month with the annual Pride at the Zoo celebration. Stop by the Bergen County Zoo at Van Saun County Park in Paramus for a day of activities, speakers, food trucks, music and more. Festivities begin at 11:30 a.m.

June 23: Head to the Tenafly Nature Center, where you and your kids can commemorate the longest day of the year with a Summer Solstice Campfire and Night Hike. Enjoy a naturalist-led hike through the center’s grounds and then settle down for s’mores. The hike starts at 7 p.m., and registration is required.

June 27: Catch some Music Under the Stars at Ridgewood’s Kasschau Memorial Bandshell. Join the Harmony Celebration Chorus at 8 p.m. for a night of acapella tunes that all ages will enjoy.

June 28: Join the Bergen County Audubon Society and Teaneck Creek Conservancy for Moth Night, where experts will search for and teach about these nocturnal pollinators. This event starts at 8:30 p.m.

July 11: Head over to the amphitheater at Overpeck Park in Ridgefield Park at 7 p.m. for a free outdoor concert! Enjoy the sounds of 1960s Motown with Dr. K’s Motown Revue. Bring your own chair and blanket!

July 12–15: The Dream Food Fest comes to the American Dream mall in East Rutherford. This foodie paradise brings together the best culinary treasures New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania have to offer. Times vary, so make sure you check out the schedule.

July 16: At North Arlington’s Stage at Riverside County Park, you can enjoy an outdoor concert featuring Steppin’ Out, a 10-piece party band. The music begins at 7 p.m.
