Cold Play
A family in Mahwah enjoys a magical, moonlit snowy evening.
There’s nothing quite like the magic of a childhood snow day, from the glittering landscape and the hope of a day off from school to the promise of sledding and hot cocoa. For the Thiyagarajan family of Mahwah, however, the fairytale keeps going into adulthood. “Before we moved to the U.S., we lived in the hot, tropical climate of South India,” explains Babu Thiyagarajan. “The warm weather there was awesome, but we always wanted to touch and play in the snow, because for a long time we only saw it in movies.” After the family started this season sick and indoors, they finally got well enough to play outside. Thiyagarajan posted this video of himself, his wife Sowmiya and their two young sons enjoying the snow together. “We wanted to have fun and make some joyful memories,” he says. “It was beautiful—the snow was sparkling in the moonlight.”
