Breakfast is still the most important meal of the day because it provides you with much-needed fuel, but we love it for the delicious options. Our favorite morning meal: pancakes!

When National Pancake Day rolls around on March 4, many of us will head to popular chain restaurant IHOP, which once again is offering a short stack of fluffy cakes on the house. You may see us at one of the Bergen County locations: Englewood, Fair Lawn, Hasbrouck Heights, Ramsey or Teaneck.

Though IHOP’s promotion on March 4 is tough to beat, the pancakes served at independent restaurants throughout the county always hit the spot—and many go all out with quantity and toppings. Below are just a few local eateries with pancakes worth diving into:

Brownstone Pancake Factory, Edgewater, Englewood Cliffs. This popular eatery is known throughout the region for its decadent pancakes, some of which resemble dessert instead of breakfast. Whenever you eat them, the pancakes are always delicious.
*860 River Rd., Edgewater, 201.945.4800; 717 E. Palisade Ave., Englewood Cliffs, 201.945.4800

Daily Treat, Ridgewood. This neighborhood diner was tied for second for Bergen’s best breakfast in the 2024 Readers’ Choice contest (click here to vote in 2025’s!), and the pancakes are a big reason why.
*177 E. Ridgewood Ave., Ridgewood, 201.652.9113

First Watch, Montvale. This local chain also was honored in last year’s Readers’ Choice awards, taking third place in the best breakfast category. Try the lemon ricotta pancakes for a treat.
*38 Farm View, Montvale, 551.210.1955

Le Pancake Café, Ridgewood. There are plenty of filling breakfast dishes here, from sweet bites to savory entrées, but always rely on the pancakes to leave you stuffed and satisfied.
*140 E. Ridgewood Ave., 201.444.9090

Original Pancake House, Edgewater. These guys do pancakes in a variety of ways, from super-thin flapjacks to oven-baked and stuffed cakes to classic griddle short stacks. You can’t go wrong whichever way you get them.
*15 The Promenade, Edgewater, 201.366.4065

Guzzo’s BakeHouse, Haworth. You can get a stack of plain buttermilk pancakes here, and that’s just fine. But it’s worth trying one of their cakey creations, such as cookie dough or the triple threat (layers of French cream, Oreo cream and Nutella.)
*149 Terrace St., Haworth, 201.685.5360

Raymond’s, Ridgewood. This Readers’ Choice honoree (second place for best breakfast) doesn’t tinker with a classic: Its buttermilk pancakes with maple syrup and butter are *chef’s kiss*.
*101 E. Ridgewood Ave., Ridgewood, 201.445.5125

Rutherford Pancake House, Rutherford. With options like strawberry shortcake, choco coco and berry merry pancakes, it’s no wonder why this eatery has pancakes in its name.
*40 Park Ave., Rutherford, 201.340.4171

Steve & Andrea’s, Rutherford. The tall and short stacks here are likely two of the reasons why BERGEN readers voted this eatery as their second favorite brunch spot in last year’s poll.
*298 Park Ave., Rutherford, 201.939.7668

Willow and Whisk, Wyckoff. Named best brunch location in the 2024 Readers’ Choice poll, this popular spot does several types of pancakes, including a heavenly cinnamon swirl.
*319 Franklin Ave., Wyckoff, 201.425.9931
