Running Runs In The Family
Mother and daughter complete the Bergenfield 5K together.

Families that run together, stay together. Racing, indeed, runs in Haworth resident Erika Enriquez’s family: She and her brother have been doing organized runs for years, and Enriquez’s 8-year-old daughter, Marceline, has been watching her race since she was born. “So naturally she became curious about running a 5K, and I felt she was finally ready to give it a shot,” says Enriquez, who completed last month’s Boston Marathon in 3:18:14. Coincidentally, Bergenfield—the town in which Enriquez grew up—hosted its first town 5K last weekend, so mother and daughter signed up to run. Mom posted a series of photos and videos that captured the spirit, vibe and fun of the event. “It’s funny because she’s used to seeing my brother and I finish these 5Ks quickly, so she assumed that it would be just a few minutes for her too,” says Enriquez, who placed third overall among women. “While we were running, she was still making me laugh and said, ‘Mom, I didn’t know that it was THIS long!’” Here’s to more mother-daughter runs!
