So Long, Sheraton
Over in Mahwah, we bid a final adieu to a local landmark.

It was one of the first things you saw when driving on Route 287 toward Bergen. The tallest spot on the skyline, with its distinctive, pointed top, the Sheraton Crossroads was a county landmark for good reason. The building stood for 36 years, hosting countless weddings, proms, business events and more. Last Saturday, May 10, after sitting empty for more than a year, it went out in a way befitting an icon: with a bang. Hundreds of people lined Route 17 and other nearby vantage points to watch the controlled implosion, which the Township of Mahwah livestreamed. The blasts were loud enough to be heard throughout the county and in nearby New York towns. In a statement released on social media, Mahwah Mayor Jim Wysocki said the building “welcomed us and showed us a good time.” He continued: “The Mahwah Sheraton Crossroads lived up to the true meaning of Mahwah, it was a welcoming sight and a meeting place for all.”
