The day to celebrate mothers has passed, and Father’s Day is only a few weeks away—but don’t forget to celebrate loved ones outside your family as well. Sunday, June 8 is Best Friends Day, and it’s the perfect time to gather your crew and celebrate your connections.
What to do? You could pack a picnic or enjoy some warm weather leisure activities. But if you’re looking for a good old-fashioned night on the town, check out these spots, all of them nods in our 2024 Readers’ Choice Awards:
Bar Boutique. Runner up for the county’s Best Happy Hour, this is a must-visit for those who crave craft cocktails. The food options are also nothing to sneeze at—check out specialty charcuterie spreads, pull brisket sliders and a full brunch menu if you want to gather earlier in the day.

Biggie’s. Voted Bergen’s Best Sports Bar, this is a great option for gathering the guys or gals to watch a game (both basketball and hockey are deep into the playoffs). Pick up great sips and food to enjoy while you watch, or kick back away from the screens and catch up with your crew.

Blue Moon Mexican Café. This spot topped the Readers’ Choice Awards as the Best Girls’ Night Out locale and the Best Happy Hour, in addition to receiving a nod for Best Margaritas. That’s high praise, and Blue Moon lives up to it: Happy hour runs from 3 to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and Thursday night offers specials for the ladies and the menu is packed with Mexican classics.

Fire & Oak. Over in Montvale, this spot took runner up of our girls’ night out category. Enjoy a chic dining room and elevated menu options such as sherry-glazed salmon or spicy tuna tartar. You can also stop by from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. any weekday for a killer happy hour.

The Orange Lantern. Not only is this another of Bergen’s favorite sports bars, it’s also one of the best bars for live music in the county. Check out bands nearly every weekend or bring your group of friends to a karaoke Monday or trivia night on Thursday. The menu is also extensive and filled with favorites.
