6 Ways To Feed Him On Father’s Day

Barbecue? Seafood? An at-home meal? Give your guy the feast he deserves on his big day.

Dad’s big day is on Sunday, and you’ve likely already bought him a great gift or made plans for an exciting Father’s Day experience. In addition to the perfect present, a big meal is probably on the agenda—a steak or spicy shrimp from the grill and a homemade cake, perhaps? But don’t fret if you haven’t covered the food portion of the day; we’re here to help.

Below are a few ideas that’ll satisfy the stomach of any guy—they’re all recent BERGEN Readers’ Choice honorees and all highly rated.

For the eat-at-home type. Let Dad (and the rest of the family) enjoy a great restaurant meal from the comfort of his own kitchen table. Stern and Bow in Closter offers every item (How does a lobster roll or sausage and vodka sauce pizza sound?) from its eclectic seasonal menu to-go, as does Blue Moon Mexican Café in Wyckoff and Mezza Mediterranean in Westwood. A big deli sandwich or two from Italian Riviera in Waldwick, Grosso’s La Strada in Midland Park or Casa Del Sole in Woodcliff Lake can make him a happy man as well.

For the barbecue lover. If you’d rather not stand over the hot backyard grill, head over to one of Bergen’s best barbecue spots for mouthwatering brisket, ribs, burgers and more. Readers’ Choice winner Brothers Barbecue in Ramsey has a lengthy menu of meats and sides, while Kimchi Smoke in Ridgewood and Westwood offers unique twists to classic cookout fare. The chefs at Allendale Bar & Grill serve up mean and memorable burgers that are just as good as Dad’s. (Just don’t tell him that!)

For the seafood fanatic. Nothing says summer like fresh seafood, and Bergen has plenty to offer. Last year’s Readers’ Choice for Best Seafood restaurant, Varka Estiatorio in Ramsey, does fish, shrimp, lobster and other dishes that he’ll love. Oceanos Oyster Bar & Sea Grill in Fair Lawn and Biggie’s in Carlstadt are also known for providing the best flavors from the sea and more.

For the health food junkie. Dads who’d rather skip oily foods and fatty meats and prefer fresh vegetable and natural ingredients will enjoy the menu at Veggie Heaven in Teaneck, a familiar name in BERGEN’s Readers’ Choice contest. The bowls and juices at Beets Juice Bar or The Raw Squeeze in New Milford also can make Dad’s day a refreshing one.

For the all-you-can-eat type. The Moon Korean BBQ & Hot Pot in Hackensack lets diners select any and all the ingredients (broths, sauces, vegetables, meats) they want to create a unique dish—and they can keep adding until their stomachs are full. The Cornerstone in Hillsdale has its regular award-winning Sunday brunch buffet with omelet and carving stations in addition to an assortment of chefs’ selections.

For the beyond-Bergen sort. Our county is blessed with so many great eateries, but once in a while a trip to a nearby town adds to the dining experience. The Chart House in Weehawken is a regular Readers’ Choice honoree for Best Waterfront Dining, while familiar Bergen eateries Roots Steakhouse and De Novo European Pub have locations in Morristown and Montclair, respectively. For fine dining, there’s 87 Sussex in Jersey City, which is a quick walk from the waterfront.
