Find out America’s favorite dog, and then take yours out for a run at these Bergen spots.
7 Dog Parks For You And Your Best Friend

We shouldn’t play favorites, but we all know who our favorite member of the family is. Here’s a hint—it’s the one who has four legs and is always happy to see you.

We all love our pets and, with the warm weather pulling us outside the same way Fido pulls at his leash for a walk, it’s the perfect time of year to celebrate dogs specifically. Pet experts at Dog Friendly Co. are already ahead of us with that celebration. They recently released their list of the most popular dog breeds in America, a list compiled by analyzing Google search data for nearly 300 American Kennel Club-recognized dog breeds. Which dogs are in America’s top 10? They are:

  1. Golden Retriever
  2. Australian Shepherd
  3. French Bulldog (the No. 1 breed in New Jersey, according to online magazine Dogster)
  4. Bulldog
  5. German Shepherd
  6. Chihuahua
  7. Bernese Mountain Dog
  8. Pomeranian
  9. Great Pyrenees
  10. Border Collie

Whether or not your best friend’s breed made the list, he or she will still enjoy joining you outside for some exercise, sun and socializing with other dogs. Happily, Bergen County has plenty of fantastic dog parks with lots of room to play. Here are only a few options:

  • Glen Rock Dog Park. Dedicated to 9/11 search and rescue dogs, this park has plenty of space to run and is the site for events for humans and dogs alike.
    *390 Doremus Ave., Glen Rock
  • Henry Hoebel Area, Overpeck County Park. Bergen’s most complete outdoor recreation destination, of course, has a dog park! You can also check out a running track for humans, in addition to basketball and volleyball courts.
    *Fort Lee Road, Leonia
  • Joseph A. Carucci Jr. Area, Riverside County Park. While Fido plays fetch, the kids can run and play on the playgrounds at this local park.
    *Riverside Avenue, Lyndhurst
  • Ridgewood Dog Park, Saddle River County Park. In the Ridgewood section of this county outdoor staple, you’ll find a dog park with plenty of canine friends to meet.
    *1133 E. Ridgewood Ave., Ridgewood
  • Samuel Nelkin County Park. In addition to the dog park, you also can enjoy tennis courts and a large human playground at this Wallington spot.
    *Rose Street, Wallington
  • Van Saun Dog Park. At the River Edge entrance of this Paramus-based park, you’ll find lots of room for your dog to run and play.
    *322-336 Continental Ave., River Edge
  • Wood Dale County Park. Centered around a beautiful lake, this spot has lovely scenery to enjoy while you play catch with your pooch.
    *Prospect Avenue, Woodcliff Lake
