13 Events For Mid-Summer Fun

From national headliners to local artisans, there’s something for everyone in Bergen.

We’re lucky to call Bergen County home. From big-name concerts and small-town jams to outdoor escapes and festive carnivals, there’s always something happening just steps from your front door.

Take advantage of the height of summertime and check out: 

All Weekend

Aug. 8

  • At the Wyckoff Family YMCA, enjoy a summer concert under the stars. Performing this Friday is Simmerr, a band that combines soul, indie rock, funk and jazz. This event is free, and begins at 7 p.m. 
  • Over in Hackensack, the Hackensack Performing Arts Center’s Sounds of the Summer concert series continues. At Atlantic Street Park, you can listen to the AJ Quintet pay tribute to the sounds of the 1940s. This event is free, and begins at 7 p.m.

Aug. 9

  • Looking to get outside? The Teaneck Creek Conservancy is hosting a Community Science Saturday, focusing on the insects most active in August. Enjoy a guided nature walk and learn how your sightings can help local scientists. This event is free, though registration is recommended. The program starts at 10 a.m.
  • At the historic Hermitage in Ho-Ho-Kus, you can browse a local Arts & Crafts Show. In addition to crafts, makers and artisans, food, desserts and kettle corn are available for all to enjoy. Admission includes a tour of the museum. This event begins at 10 a.m.
  • Wyckoff’s Cornerstone Christian Church hosts its Summer Family Fun Day with inflatables, games, food and activities for kids—plus plenty of opportunities for the adults to chat and make new connections. This event begins at 10 a.m.
  • Cheer on your friends and local athletes in the Ridgefield Park Family Fun Olympics! Watch families, groups of friends and other teams challenge one another in Olympic-inspired games. There will also be free live music, bubbles and food trucks throughout the day. Everything kicks off at 11 a.m. in Veterans Park.
  • Want to compete in something yourself? Take the kids to the Tenafly Nature Center’s Seasonal Scavenger Hunt, where you’ll follow clues and riddles to complete the challenge. Be sure to register in advance! Check in between 1 and 2 p.m. (You can also check out butterfly feedings at 1:30 and 2:30 p.m.)
  • In Teaneck, the Bergen County Black Caucus hosts Voterville: The People’s Festival in Votee Park. In addition to food vendors, live music and activities for children and families, you have a chance to mingle and talk with local government leaders and changemakers. The fun begins at 1 p.m.
  • At MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, you can see New Jersey icons My Chemical Romance perform on their Long Live the Black Parade tour. The band will perform The Black Parade album (named one of the 500 Greatest of All Time by Rolling Stone) from start to finish. The show starts at 6 p.m.
  • If you want to keep the party going after that show, head over to the Williams Center in Rutherford, which is hosting an Unofficial Emo Night Karaoke and MCR After Party. This gathering is for the 18+ crowd, at begins at 8 p.m. 

Aug. 10

  • Over in Englewood, The Little Gym hosts a Back to School Backpack Bash to get kids ready for the upcoming school year. Kids can personalize a backpack using fabric markers, puffy paint, fun patches and more, and each backpack comes filled with school essentials. Registration is required. Crafting starts at 3:30 p.m.
  • Hometown heroes return! Bergen County’s own Jonas Brothers stop by MetLife Stadium for a one-night show. The music will span all 20 years of their musical careers, including solo work and fan-favorite deep cuts. The show starts at 7:30 p.m.
