Happy New Year to everyone celebrating Rosh Hashanah, which begins Sept. 22 at sundown. And what better way to welcome the Jewish New Year than with something sweet? Whether you’re gathering with family, hosting friends or simply looking to add a little extra indulgence to your holiday table, you’ll want an array of delicious options at the table.

Sure, you can try making a dish from your grandmother’s cookbook, or you can let one of Bergen County’s trusted bakers make the holiday a little bit easier. Below are a few kosher bakeries that will be making plenty of treats for the season, from traditional honey cakes and rugelach to modern twists on classic treats.

Note the deadlines passed to submit large takeout orders, but all stores will be open for walk-ins and pick-ups!

Bread Boutique and Café, Tenafly. This cozy shop has everything you need for a sweet celebration: round challahs in various flavors, pies such as pecan, apple and apple crumb, and a variety of babkas.

Foster Village Kosher Delicatessen, Bergenfield. A Readers’ Choice honoree in the Jewish Deli category, this neighborhood favorite is known for its entrées and side dishes. But they also offer desserts from Zadies Bakery, including raisin challah, rugelach and honey cake.

Zadies Bake Shop, Fair Lawn. While the popular bakery continues to build its new home at 2150 Promenade Blvd., many of their treats and desserts are available at large chain grocers. Shop Rite stores in Englewood, Paramus and Rochelle Park as well as Stew Leonard’s in Paramus now sell Zadies treats like round challah, apple pie, glazed apple turnovers, honey cake and rugelach.
