All good things come to an end, so why not go out with a bang? For its 30th and final year, the Russ Berrie Making a Difference Award will honor local Gen Z leaders who are making a real impact in their communities.

New Jersey is full of inspiring young people, and this award will celebrate them! For the first time ever, 15 winners ages 16 to 24 will each receive $5,000 for their leadership and commitment.

“For nearly 30 years, the Making a Difference Award has recognized unsung heroes,” says Scott Berrie of the Russell Berrie Foundation, which identifies visionaries, institutions and unsung heroes doing groundbreaking work and amplifies their impact with financial and strategic support. “Now it’s time to shine a spotlight on the next generation of changemakers.”

Know a young changemaker? Nominations are open through Feb. 13, 2026, and can be completed online. Winners will be celebrated at a ceremony at Ramapo College of New Jersey, which has administered the program since 1997.

“Our young people are doing amazing work, often without applause,” says Lewis Spears, who was honored last year with a Making a Difference Award. “If you see a 16- to 24-year-old stepping up in your community, nominate them. Your nomination could be the spark that changes their life.”

Since 1997, the award has recognized more than 450 honorees and awarded $4.4 million to support innovative, community-centered solutions.
