10 Activities For A Fun-Filled Weekend
Before Sunday’s big game, enjoy shows, laughs, music and more around Bergen County.

So chances are you already know what you’re doing one day this weekend (have you heard about this Super Bowl thing?). Maybe you’re hosting a watch party, maybe you’re heading out to watch with others or maybe you’re more interested in the halftime show and plan mostly on chatting with friends in the other room.
But the fact remains—that’s only one day. There’s plenty more weekend to enjoy, and Bergen has a great spread of events to help you do just that. From laugh-out-loud comedy to music legends to beautiful night skies, you’ll find it all. Check out:
Feb. 6–7
- Rutherford’s Bananas Comedy Club hosts Helen Hong, a fan favorite on NPR’s hit podcast Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me. Known for her lightning-quick crowd work and hilarious takes on family dynamics, Hong will be performing at 7 p.m. on Feb. 6 and at 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. on Feb. 7. See website for tickets.
Feb. 6
- See the night sky as you never have before at Bergen Community College in Paramus, where the Emil Buehler Observatory holds a public viewing night. Take advantage of these huge, high-tech telescopes to see Jupiter, Saturn, Sirius and more up close. This event is free, and begins at 6:30 p.m.
- Bergen Performing Arts Center in Englewood hosts Motown legends The Commodores (pictured) for a night of their greatest hits and new offerings alike. See what five decades in the music industry sounds like! The show starts at 8 p.m. and tickets can be found online.
Feb. 7
- Take the kids to Barnes & Noble in Paramus for a story time and book signing with children’s book author Joyce Wan. She’ll read her book Lucky New Year Colors, which teaches about the Lunar New Year with adorable illustrations. This event begins at 11 a.m. and is free, though purchasing the book is encouraged.
- Kick off Black History Month at American Dream in East Rutherford, which is hosting a Black History Month celebration. Enjoy live music, panel discussions, a Black-owned business vendor village, free haircuts for children under 10 and much more. This free event begins at 11 a.m.
- For an entertaining interactive show, head over to the Williams Center in Rutherford for Bingo Loco Presents Name That Song. You’ll find lip synch battles, dance-offs and confetti here in addition to bingo and great prizes. The early show is at 5 p.m., and the late show is at 9 p.m. For tickets, see the website.
- Over at Mahwah’s Booyah! Restaurant & Bar, you can catch a comedy show featuring Brian Scolaro. Enjoy a night of laughs, good food, great sips and fantastic vibes. For the menu, see Booyah’s website; tickets and be bought on Eventbrite.
- Have the environment on your mind? At the Ethical Culture Society of Bergen County in Teaneck, catch a special screening from 50 States of Sustainability and then take part in a Q&A with filmmaker Larry Confino and representatives from North Jersey environmental nonprofits. The screening starts at 7 p.m. and is free, though registration is required.
Feb. 7-8
- Catch The Drowsy Chaperone, presented by Bergen Catholic High School, at the Hackensack Performing Arts Center in Hackensack. This beloved musical tells the story of a lonely man who brings his favorite musical to life in his living room—to hilarious and heartfelt results. The two shows on Feb. 7 are at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.; on Feb. 8 there is one show at 2 p.m. See website for tickets.
