11 Events For A Great Weekend

When it’s this gray outside, you might be tempted to curl up in bed and stay there all day—but you’d be missing out on all the fun! Whether you’re craving soothing classical music, engaging stage shows, comedy, crafts or exercise, our county has you covered.
Here are some of the happenings going on around Bergen this weekend, perfect for a family outing, a night out with your crew or a solo trip to brush off those winter blues:
March 6-8
- Rutherford’s Bananas Comedy Club hosts funnyman Brad Upton for four shows over three nights. Upton used to tour with the late, great Joan Rivers and is a past winner of the Las Vegas Comedy Festival. The Friday show is at 7 p.m., the two Saturday shows are at 6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. and the Sunday show is at 6 p.m. Get your tickets online.
March 6
- In River Vale, you can listen to the Adelphi Chamber Ensemble performing some stunning classical music. The program includes pieces by Joseph Haydn and Alexander Borodin. The music starts at 1 p.m. Make sure to register online!
March 7-8
- At the Hackensack Performing Arts Center, celebrate opening weekend of Over the River and Through the Woods, presented by the Company Theater Group. Written by Oradell native Joe DiPietro, this is the story of an Italian American family in Hoboken that is funny, warm and relatable. Saturday shows are at 2 and 7 p.m., and the Sunday show is at 2 p.m. Grab tickets online.
March 7
- Lace up your sneakers and get your steps in—without braving the uncertain weather. Racefaster through the Mall will take you on a 5K through the indoor American Dream mall in East Rutherford. There will also be a fun run for kids. The fun starts at 8 a.m., and you can register online.
- Over at the Closter Nature Center in Closter, you can take part in a special Know Your Woodpeckers An expert will explain how to identify these “ecosystem engineers,” as well as their importance to a healthy forest. The event begins at noon.
- Take the child in your life to the Tenafly Nature Center for an afternoon of Crafty Critters! Participants will meet one of the center’s live animal ambassadors and then create an art project based on it. This activity starts at 2 p.m. and is recommended for children ages 4 and up. Registration is required.
- Want good music for a great cause? At Roots Café in Closter, catch a performance by Billy 6 to benefit the Closter Nature Center and Closter Fire Department. This Billy Joel tribute act will take you through all his hits. The music starts at 7 p.m., and tickets can be found online.
- Over at the Bergen Performing Arts Center in Englewood, laugh out loud with comedian Vic Dibitetto, presented by Hackensack Meridian Health. Known as “The Working Class Zero,” Dibitetto presents an act with outrageous characters and sharp wit. The show starts at 8 p.m. Pick up tickets on the bergenPAC website.
- Spanish singer-songwriter Álex Ubago stops by the Williams Center in Rutherford for a night of heartfelt ballads and beautiful vocals. He is touring for the 25th anniversary of his acclaimed album ¿Qué pides tú? Tickets can be found online, and the show starts at 9 p.m.
March 8
- Celebrate Women’s History Month at the Mahwah Library with The Ladies Who Sing The Songs Hear music from names like Doris Day, Aretha Franklin, Dionne Warwick, Nancy Wilson and Ella Fitzgerald. The music begins at 2 p.m. Regester online.
- Love classic cinema? Fort Lee’s Barrymore Film Center presents Alfred Hitchcock noir masterpiece The Wrong Man. This screening will be hosted by film scholar Foster Hirsch and include a Q&A with Hitchcock author Jason Isralowitz.
